all members of this seminar for studying English with me!

New challenge!

It was a new challenge for me to participate in the debate. I have never imagined that I'm going to do it.

So I would like to study about debating from now on.

A debate is a form of public discourse-discourse means lecture, speech, adress, oration, conference-; it is a formal direct oral contest or competition in argumentation between two or more people on a defined proposition at a specific time. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, debate is “a formal discussion on a particular matter in a public meeting or legislative-having the authority to make or enact of laws- assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward and which usually ends with a vote.”

Thinking of debating, I recalled - remembered one of the TED Talks videos inspired me a lot, which is about what makes people move. I recommend you to watch it! I believe you can do it!

Do you know the girl...?

Let me introduce the book I will recommend.  We discussed if homework is necessary or not for the debate.  I am a person who said homework is unnecessary, but after reading this book,  I think  it may be a good thing we have homework.

I was halfway through the book a few years ago just after the writer got the Nobel Peace Prize.

I forgot when it was, so I checked it out on the web.  It was 2014 that the girl was awarded.

Do you remember her name?  Her name is on the book title, which is "I Am Malala", Malala Yousafzai

is her name.

We are able to know how she was raised by her family or neighbors, her favorite things, her dreams, the real situation of Taliban etc...

When I was in Sydney, my neighbor elementary school teacher said students from Pakistan

have poor in education.  I could not believe even they lived outside Pakistan, they did not seem to

make a good use of the opportunity.

Reading this book, I was realized there were many people who have no choice but to be away from school.  On the other hand, I have lots of chances to study now, so I would like to study more and dedicate myself to finding ways to help those people...

"1984"

I went to the library and found the book whose title is "1984".  I took political science class on Friday.  On that class, we learn we should acuire media literacy in order not to be infringed on or broken our right.  The teacher recommended to read the books written by George Orwell, such as "Animal Farm" and "1984" so that you can understand  how the government controls people.

I recalled I read "Animal Farm" when I was a college student as a text book in reading class and wrote a report.  Almost thirty years later after that, I felt like  I would like to read them again.

On the first page of the book, there are Orwell's history.  I didn't notice of that part when I read

it for the first time.  He was born in India and grew up in England.  He was a policeman in Burma, which is called Myanmar now.  I didn't know he was a policeman and wrote about the police in those books. So it is interesting to read the same book more than once.

The title is "1984", but it was written about 1948. He looked ahead over the years.

When I heard about this book for the first time, I thought I would like to look ahead.

If you read them, you may be able to see the future.

I wolud like to know if there is a book you want to read twice?  It is the book you would like to read

again and again whenever you feel something is not right.

Pro and Cons

There may be pro and cons about studying abroad towards debate contest, I recommend you to study abroad once in a lifetime.

I was a person I went to Sydney as an College exchange student for five weeks.  I enjoyed homestay as well as studying at college there.
College in Australia consists of junior and senior high school in our country, not College in Japan.
I attended many variety classes from Year 7 to Year 12.

After the experience, I would like to study abroad.  However, people around me knew about myself better that I could not choose what I wanted to
study at that time.  My mother suggested me to go abroad after graduating and experienced working at a company so that I could make money and go abroad by myself.
Also my homeroom teacher advised me not only studying English, find other major.  For me English seems to be the means not the way so he suggested to find the way, like studying English literature, Education, Linguistics, Pcychology and so on...

I couldn't choose any of those, so I shifted to get a working experience and think about to studying abroad.

After two decades, my wishes may come true.  This April, I had a chance to choose to study at Canada but I failed because I didn't take TOFEL test. So it seems its still not the right time, but I know what I should do to prepared for.

A preparation is the first step to success.

I still need to preparation before going to Canada!
Also I have to prepare for the debate lesson?!

Today's recommendations are the saying as above and Tobitate Japan program run by Ministry of Education. I hope it helps.

I found it!

Thank you for Mack sensei, who gave me a chance to take a shin zemi library tour.  I was afraid to

go down stairs by myself first so I could not go to underground in the library.  After the tour, I tried to visit there again by myself.

I like to look around without checking what I want to read.  I would like to choose the book while

I am looking the title of the book.

I gave up to find "Animal Farm", because I could not find it when I borrowed "1984".

This time I challenged to go to undergraound and I found the book I wanted to read.

So there is worth travelling the library, you may find the book you want to read!

There was one night, all farm animals of Mr. Jonesof the Manor Farm, hens, horses, pigs,

ducks, goats, donkeys, even rats got together and agree that it is duty of enmity towards Man .  Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. They must not take after man. ...

Their excited night when thier agreement reaches are concluded by Mr. Jones awoke for

the animals sound, hit the gun shot.

Can you guess what will happen to  the animal farm?

Good-bye Mr.Chips

I will read this book and write a book review, but I would like to introduce some parts I was interested in.
Mr. Chips, who is an old school teacher changed from what he used to be after he met a young girl and he got marry her.
He had a prejudice to lower class students, but thanks to his young wife he could change his mind so students of his school had a chance to meet them.
His wife was died after that, but when Mr.Chips met him,he had a chance to meet the student from lower class school student, he remembered Mr.Chps wife even she was dead.
It was before the W.W.I, some students went to the war and never returned, like the student.
I'm sure this book will be the more you read, the more you get involved!
